Zeteo brings a live edition of We’re Not Kidding to Cullen Performance Hall on Friday, October 16. Mehdi Hasan joins Mohammed “Mo” Amer for a conversation on politics, Palestine, and comedy, with audience questions planned.
Born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents, Amer fled the Gulf War with his mother and siblings at nine and settled in Houston. He began performing stand-up after high school. His Netflix series Mo, co-created with Ramy Youssef, follows a Palestinian refugee growing up in Houston while navigating the U.S. immigration system.
His three Netflix specials draw on the same territory. Mo Amer: The Vagabond covers life as a refugee comic, travel under the name Mohammed, and citizenship. Mohammed in Texas takes on pandemic panic, hummus appropriation, Bradley Cooper, and Arabic cursing. The 2025 special Mo Amer: Wild World includes Palestinian roots, touring confrontations, and fatherhood.
Amer hosted the 86th Peabody Awards and appeared on Marc Maron’s WTF.
