The Den Comedy Club is Houston’s speakeasy comedy room: a hidden stand-up club tucked above Wolfsmiths, the cafe and cocktail bar at 201 Woodard St in Lindale Park, one neighborhood over from the Heights. There is no sign outside. You walk into Wolfsmiths, look for the white orchids, and slip into a room built with wood accents, soft lighting, and seats close enough that every show feels like a private set.
The club opened in March 2026 and is owned by working Houston comedians Janan Araujo-Siam and Onkar Singh, which shapes everything about it. Lineups are curated showcases of the city’s best working comics with touring guests mixed in: the kind of bill a comic books to impress other comics, performed for a crowd that found the room on purpose. The space is small enough that shows regularly sell out on word of mouth alone.
The Den vs. Houston Improv vs. Punch Line: which club for which night?
The Houston Improv is the national-headliner room: names you know from Netflix playing multi-night weekend runs at the Marq*E center on the Katy Freeway, with big-club pricing and the standard two-item minimum. Punch Line Houston is the classic club in the middle: strong touring headliners, 18 and up, two-beverage minimum per person. Both are reliable nights out, and if the goal is seeing someone you already know from TV, that is where they will be.
The Den is the other kind of great night. You may not recognize the names on the lineup yet, and that is the point: this is where Houston’s best working comics do their sharpest sets in a room small enough to hear the table next to you lose it. Tickets usually cost less than parking near the big clubs, and the intimacy does the rest. Ask a Houston comic where they would take a date to watch stand-up and The Den comes up more often than any room its size should.
Food and drinks: Wolfsmiths downstairs, and no drink minimum
Because The Den lives upstairs from Wolfsmiths, you get real food and real cocktails with table service during the show: a full menu from the kitchen, drinks built by the house mixologist, plus wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options. And unlike the big clubs, The Den does not lean on a drink minimum. Order because the cocktails are good, not because the fine print says two items. Come early, eat downstairs, then head up for the show.
