In October 2026, a Zofunny Monthly post found Alonzo Bodden writing about friends’ illnesses and deaths, postponed knee surgery, and the decision to stop deferring pleasure. “I am continually, sadly reminded that life is promised to no one,” he wrote. His stand-up draws on current events, race, media, and everyday observation.

Bodden grew up in St. Albans, Queens, then spent about a decade as an airplane mechanic before training mechanics at McDonnell Douglas. Teaching made him comfortable before a room; a comedy-writing course graduation show gave him his first time onstage. He began doing stand-up in Los Angeles in 1993, at 30, and later broke through at Montreal’s Just for Laughs. “I never looked back,” he said. “I knew that this was what I was going to do.”

His delivery is conversational. The Showtime specials Who’s Paying Attention? (2011), Historically Incorrect (2016), and Heavy Lightweight (2019) were followed in 2026 by How Do You Spell Moth?, released through Dry Bar Comedy and Angel. On television, he won NBC’s third season of Last Comic Standing after finishing runner-up in season two, and played Alonzo in five 2014 episodes of Californication.
