In August 2026, Harper’s Bazaar caught Chris Fleming after the premiere of Chris Fleming: Live at the Palace, his HBO and HBO Max special, and his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. “That special was me firing at the height of my powers,” he said.

Fleming grew up in Stow, Massachusetts, in an Irish Catholic family. New England, suburban social types, therapy, consumer culture, and performance anxiety recur in his work. His early online breakthrough was Gayle, the web series about Gayle Waters-Waters, a hyper-competitive suburban mother.

His stand-up mixes stories, dancing, songs, and sketch-like framing with strenuous physical performance. Harper’s Bazaar described him as constantly in motion onstage; Marc Maron called the act unusually free and improvisationally flexible. The 2018 YouTube special Showpig came before the 2023 Peacock special Chris Fleming: Hell.

Fleming played Leonard in the 2025 Abbott Elementary episode “Karaoke.” In March 2026, he appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote Live at the Palace.
