Punch Line Houston — Shows, Tickets & Info

Punch Line Houston is the downtown stand-up room at 1204 Caroline St, inside the GreenStreet complex, in the space that used to be the House of Blues restaurant and now runs as a club with its own entrance. It seats about 250, which makes it the middle size in Houston comedy: better funded and better booked than the neighborhood rooms, small enough that the back row still feels close to the stage.

The club opened downtown in September 2024 as the fourth Punch Line, a name that traces back to the original San Francisco room and its run as a proving ground for touring comics since 1978. Under head of comedy operations Amanda Kyser it books more than 350 shows a year and puts Houston comics on the bill ahead of the touring headliners, which is rarer at this size than it ought to be. If you have watched a local open mic and wondered where those comics go next, a fair number of them go here.

Punch Line vs. Houston Improv vs. the small rooms: which one tonight?

Punch Line and the Houston Improv are the two rooms in the city booking national touring comics week in and week out, and choosing between them is mostly logistics. Punch Line is downtown, general admission, and first come first served, so arriving early is what gets you a good seat. The Improv is out on the Katy Freeway with free parking and sells tickets as whole tables. Downtown means a garage or valet here; the Katy Freeway means a free lot there. Factor that in and the ticket prices sit closer together than they look.

For a cheaper and smaller night, The Den and The Riot run rooms where the lineups are Houston’s best working comics rather than names off television, at a fraction of the ticket. Punch Line sits deliberately between the two: touring headliners most weekends, local showcases and one-off series on the weeknights.

Comedia en Español and the local bills

Punch Line programs Spanish-language stand-up more consistently than any other large room in Houston. Look for the shows marked en Español on the calendar below, where touring Spanish-language comics play the same stage as the English bills rather than getting pushed to an off night. Every one of them is also collected on our Spanish comedy in Houston page if that is what you came for.

Food, drinks, and the two-drink minimum

There is a two beverage minimum per guest in the showroom, and the club counts non-alcoholic drinks toward it: mocktails, sodas, and juices all satisfy the requirement, so it is not a tax on not drinking. The kitchen runs a full menu with table service through the show.

Standard downtown club rules otherwise: no outside food or drink, and bags larger than 10 by 10 inches, backpacks, and professional cameras stay in the car.
